CONSERVATION INITIATIVE

Victor and Natalie Knibbs, members of Hi-Tec Plumbing, were both born in Zimbabwe and have had the privilege of living in both Zimbabwe and South Africa and have always been drawn to the magnetism of the African bush and its wildlife. As a result, Natalie is a keen photographer and wildlife artist and it is through her art that she truly expresses her love for Africa. At any opportunity, Natalie & Victor escape the city and into the bush (usually camping to fully experience the wild), with their two daughters, and enjoy the freedom and peace that the African bush gives freely to them and they are honored to be in the position to give something back. Hi-Tec Plumbing is proud to be involved with Tembe Elephant Park in Northern KZN where Victor & Natalie are official Honorary Officers and offer their services gratis to assist where and when possible in any efforts towards conservation which is close to their hearts and foremost in their minds when it comes to the preservation and conservation of the fauna and flora that has given so freely to them.

This remote park, deep in an area of sand forests, pans and wetlands in Maputaland, lies on the border between KwaZulu-Natal and Mozambique. The diversity of birdlife is spectacular. The park is situated within the sand veld ecological zone and consists mainly of closed woodland and secondary thicket formation. The zone falls within a transition area between tropical and sub-tropical forms and therefore is home to a great diversity of vegetation.
Tembe Elephant Park covers the area that was once known as 'The Ivory Route'. For many years this ancient route linked the ivory traders of Mozambique and Zululand. It is where the largest elephants in Africa – and the world – roamed… naturally! Today, over 220 of these gentle giants remain and thrive in their ancestral homeland. With this diversity of habitats Tembe is home to a spectacular variety of animals and birds. Tembe is a special place with basic visitor facilities and a road system consistent with the wilderness management of the area.

Transfrontier Park: Expanding horizons – The Usuthu Tembe Futi Transfrontier Park

Tembe Elephant Park is a part of the greater Lebombo Transfrontier Conservation Area incorporating conservation areas in Swaziland, Mozambique and South Africa. The future of our elephants and other wildlife at Tembe looks bright, as the Usuthu Tembe Futi Transfrontier Conservation Area unites Tembe with the pristine pan system of Ndumo Game Reserve. This will restore the ancient territories of the elephants in the Futi system and Rio Maputo wetlands of Mozambique – giving them unprecedented freedom to roam, to grow and to thrive, and taking the measured thread of these grey giants into area where they have not been for centuries. This Transfrontier Park is an international Peace Parks initiative, for more details visit www.peaceparks.org
